GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND, Bahamas – May 7, 2015 Grand Lucayan, the award-winning resort offering an authentic, classic Bahamian experience, proudly announces the launch of an all-inclusive concept, Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan. The new 198 room upscale resort will serve as an additional option for guests seeking an all-inclusive vacation experience instead of the traditional à la cart model.

Expected to be unveiled late 2015, Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan is currently undergoing a multimillion dollar enhancement project. Extensive renovations include modernized guest rooms, upgrades and redesigns of the common areas, restaurant updates and more. Ideal for a variety of guests ranging from families to couples, Lighthouse Pointe's amenities will include an on-property nightclub for adults and expansive kids club for guests 12 years of age and under.

"Grand Lucayan has become synonymous with high caliber service and a superior quality product coming together to create an unmatched, authentic Bahamian vacation. The entire Grand Lucayan team is committed to serving our valued guest, and we believe the creation of Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan is a testament to that promise," said Benjamin Davis, General Manager of Grand Lucayan. "Ultimately we expect Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan to capture the attention of an entirely new audience seeking an unforgettable all-inclusive experience."

"Strategically positioning Grand Lucayan as a hybrid resort, with both traditional and all-inclusive offerings, will effectively drive the brand to the next level and redefine our capabilities," said Tom Anderson, Chief Marketing Officer of Grand Lucayan. "It is our hope that the addition of Lighthouse Pointe will capture the attention of new and past guests alike by coupling the appeal of Grand Lucayan's already impressive offerings with the benefits associated with the all-inclusive concept to create a truly unrivaled destination resort in Grand Bahama Island."

Refurbishing Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan is expected to aesthetically transform the existing building into a destination fitting of its namesake. With 198 stylishly appointed guest rooms and suites, Lighthouse Pointe's spacious quarters will offer Caribbean-inspired décor with nautical accents. With ocean, island and marina/garden view accommodations, the all-inclusive concept will also feature complimentary Wi-Fi, airport transfers and long-distance phone calls to the United States and Canada.

With seven dining destinations available for all-inclusive guests, Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan will feature an eclectic array of cuisine ranging from mouthwatering Italian and modern Asian to regional Caribbean and traditional American fare. The new concept will also provide guests with in-room dining for dinner, a traditional wood-oven burning pizza café, access to weekly beach barbeque, fish fry and Bahamian buffet events and premium alcoholic beverages.

In addition to new dining and entertainment venues, the enhancement project is also expected to create an exciting new kids club. Sure to delight the resorts tiny guests 12 year of age and under, the new kids club will be locally inspired and created with the goal of being the ultimate tree house. Built surrounding the property's iconic almond tree, the tree house will come complete with locally-inspired arts and crafts, massive playground and the latest and greatest gaming equipment. In line with Grand Lucayan's guest-centric offerings for families, children 12 years of age and under stay for free, while young guests 13 to 17 years of age can enjoy reduced rates.

Grand Lucayan Launches Educational Training Program for Students
New Apprenticeship Program aims to mentor local students in hospitality

GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND, Bahamas – October 2014 – Grand Lucayan, an award-winning, classic Bahamian resort, is pleased to announce a philanthropic partnership with the co-educational Jack Hayward High School in Grand Bahama Island. The collaboration is expected to launch a newly introduced Apprenticeship Program this October in the Royal Palm Room at the Grand Lucayan Convention Center. A combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction in which the 60 apprentices will learn the practical and theoretical principles, Grand Lucayan's new educational program will allow the students to turn their passion for hospitality into real-world experience, from classroom practice to the workforce.

"The Grand Lucayan team is excited to welcome the eager students to the resort's family," said Freddie R. Smith, Human Resources Director. "With 520 employees, we pride ourselves in the education, experience and quality of every single member of our team, and part of our promise to the community is to grow by offering programs like this. We want the bright students to master the areas of discipline, service, appearance, and protocols in order to provide them with a full-circle training worthy of any full-time opportunity."

The resort invested in the future of Grand Lucayan by offering the 60 trainees the opportunity to immerse themselves in the brand's culture, learn core values, service standards, commitment to excellence and operational procedures throughout the course of the program, which will be divided into three eight-week sessions, with 20 students in each focusing on three to four students per shift for a personalized training. The mentors will play the most important role in the completion of the program as they will be the students' mentors, coaches, emotional support and source of encouragement throughout the multifaceted program.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Ensure that workforce development and on the job training programs meet the needs of the brand
  • Showcase the hospitality industry as an industry of high-growth potential.
  • Educate students on lodging operations while promoting and mapping out long-term career paths available to students
  • Encourage professionalism, confidence and positive work ethics
  • Integrate core skills such as reading, writing, technology, and math into the lodging curriculum

To be eligible for the rigorous Apprenticeship Program, students will commit to a minimum of 12.5 weekly job training hours (with rotation opportunities available on weekends, holidays, and evenings under several conditions), operational check in and out of every shift, and completion of various tasks and assigned responsibilities expected of any Grand Lucayan employee.

The last session of the Apprenticeship Program will culminate on April 2015, concluding with a celebration hosted on property.
