THANKSGIVING IN THE BAHAMAS

11/21/2017
Being less than 50 miles away from the coast of Florida, The Bahamas shares many things with the U.S., an international border being just one of them. Holidays are a major crossover point between our two countries, and although Thanksgiving isn’t officially observed in The Bahamas, the idea of celebrating family and friends strikes a chord with the close-knit communities of our islands. Here, the tables are set with many of the traditional trimmings of the holiday, but with a few of our own Bahamian twists, of course. In most households, a plate of fish soaked in saffron sauce is served along side the turkey while baked macaroni and peas’n’rice add the perfect compliment to the stuffing dishes. And for dessert, there’s few things Bahamians love more a few slices of pumpkin pie and authentic guava duff.
